God’s Glory in the Workplace
Everything we do is for the glory of God. We are present for the glory of God. Even our day to day work, we must remember we are serving God, not the employer.
It's not about us and our feelings. It's never about that. I know this is something I definitely have to be reminded of at times. I sometimes struggle with my day to day because I know the vision God has given me, and it is bigger than where I am currently. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy my job, but I know that God has something even greater in store for my family. It’s easy to get side tracked and knocked off focus in your current situation, when you know that there is a vision in your head and you’re wanting to fulfill that vision. Timing is everything though, and having peace through the journey shows trust in God's plan. We have to be intentional of being fully present in our now. Though God has even greater plans for you, He is molding you for those plans in this current season. Think back on when you prayed for where you are currently. God molded you in that previous season for such a time as this, and we have to be intentional about being in this season fully.
In God's timing, everything will flow. You still have to show up and put in the necessary work for today. Yes you will still face trials and difficult times, it’s building you and making you stronger. However, even through those hard times you will still have a peace and a fire that surpasses all understanding because you are working towards God’s plan for your life. As I write this, my current situation does not align with the vision God has given us at all. God has given my husband and me a vision that we will be instrumental in improving the health, increasing the wealth, and providing spiritual guidance of His people. We have built our business based on this vision. We are moving in faith so my husband runs the business full-time, and I still have my full-time job. Finances are tighter than they have ever been. Life is life-ing. Work is stressful. So much of me want to breakdown at every moment, but I know that God has a plan for us. We just have to keep showing up, and continuing moving in faith. This means, when I log into my workplace, I show up fully present. Regardless of a hard situation, God has me at my workplace for a reason. I know that God has plans for our business, but my current season is at my job and He has me there for a reason. If I show up to my job half heartedly because of life stressors or due to work overload, I misrepresent who God is. If I'm short to the person at work who asked one too many questions, or I get frustrated with a person that is just not understanding, how does that represent the Jesus in me. Jesus is so patient. He is so kind.
How can we represent God the best in our workplace?
Be confident - Be confident in who you are and whose you are. God created you, and he made sure you are equipped with what is needed. Not to just perform, but perform from overflow. What you lack, He has so you still have it. Just lean into Him.
Show love - God is love. How better to represent Him, than to love on the people around you with the love of God. This means showing up for them. Assisting with projects. Completing your projects with love. Love is an action.
Show kindness - Instead of immediately reacting to someone that has been short with you in an email, respond with kindness. Don't allow their situation to cause you to respond in a way that is negative. Out joy does not come from them, so we cannot allow them to have control of it. There could be a number of things that person may be going through. Their attitude is not because of you, so don't give them the power to affect yours. Continue to be kind regardless. You could be the only example of God's kindness they experience.
Show generosity - Be generous in your interactions with the people you work with as well as genorous with the work you do. We can't show up and do the bare minimum. We represent God in everything we do. God never gives the bare minimum, so we should not either. The definition of being generous is showing readiness to give more of something than is strictly necessary or expected. We are to be generous with out time and our talents. God has placed you in your workplace for a reason. Always look for the reason He has placed you there and He will always reveal it to you.
Prayer
Lord I pray that everyone reading this will be able to shine your light wherever they are. Help them with patience, courage, and strength. I ask that you help them to handle any frustrations they may face in their workplace. We decree and declare favor with everyone at their job. If they are heavy burdened, help them understand that you are the solution. You told us in your word that your burden is light. Help us to hand over our burdens and take on your yolk. We are so grateful for you Lord. We know that you have amazing plans for us and we will not just look to the plans, but also trust you on the journey. We pray for clarity and guidance. We pray for peace through the chaos. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
